Governor Martin O'Malley signs Delegate Ariana Kelly's Parental Leave at the Birth or Adoption of a Child (HB 1026) into law. This legislation provides six weeks of job protected parental leave when having a baby to those working at small businesses. These employees were not previously covered by the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, so they had absolutely no job protections in place when deciding to have a child. As a result of Delegate Kelly's bill new mothers or fathers can no longer be fired from their job for taking parental leave.
Governor O'Malley signs Delegate Ariana Kelly's Access to Habilitative Services (HB 798) into law. This legislation provides information about access to habilitative services (including speech, occupational, and physical therapies) covered by private insurance.
